Science Week

At Churchfields we are passionate about Science and this week we have taken the opportunity to carry out our own scientific enquiries and experiments.

Amongst others, The children found out which liquid travelled the fastest and won the liquids race, what happens to eggs if you leave them for 2 days in coke, vinegar or water, whether the tallest children were the fastest runners and how to make a marble run, so it takes the greatest amount of time to reach the end.

Children debated if all oranges have the same number of segments then we predicted how many segments were in our groups orange. We peeled the orange and recorded the result. They wanted to test if all balls would bounce the same amount of times. We dropped each ball from the same height to ensure it was a fair test. We were surprised that the tennis ball didn't bounce as many times as we predicted. Could you investigate with other balls at home?

We watched a shocking video about the deforestation of the amazon rainforest. We were so saddened to learn that by 2050 it is expected that 60% of the amazon rainforest will have gone. We have decided to help by using both sides of the paper when drawing and colouring, to reduce the amount being used. How else can you help?

Nursery also joined in the fun by using pipettes and spoons to squeeze, squirt and mix coloured water and shaving foam.

All children asked their own questions, planned enquiries, recorded their results and then answered the questions.

We are all super scientists!
